My parents laughed.

I looked at him calmly.

Silence flickered across the table.

“No.”

Dad stared at me.

Before Vanessa could respond, footsteps crossed the stone terrace.

Two attorneys followed behind him.

Vanessa went pale.

I stood.

“Perfect timing,” I said.

The man extended his hand.

My father slowly lowered his fork.

Vanessa whispered, “Ms. Carter?”

I smiled.

Vanessa stared at me.

Dad slowly looked up.

Derek stood.

“Sit down,” Vanessa hissed.

Dad looked confused. “Michael resigned.”

“That’s a lie.”

The attorney slid a printed email toward Dad.

Mom whispered, “Vanessa…”

“It was business pressure!”

“It was retaliation,” I said.

She slammed her palm onto the table.

“No.”

I reached for another folder.

All three were controlled by Derek.

Dad’s chair scraped violently against the stone.

“What?”

Derek cursed under his breath.

Vanessa’s face turned white.

“They were legitimate consulting fees.”

“For what consulting?”

She hesitated.

That hesitation destroyed her.

Dad looked at Derek.

“You told me your software company was profitable.”

Derek backed away from the table.

I continued quietly.

“The money funded their house renovation, two luxury cars, and Derek’s failed cryptocurrency investments.”

Mom covered her mouth.

Vanessa’s arrogance cracked into panic.

“You went through my private finances?”

“No. Corporate funds aren’t private.”

She pointed at me.

“You planned this because you’ve always been jealous.”

That almost made me laugh.

“For fifteen years, you told everyone I was stupid because Dad chose you. You mocked my job, my clothes, my apartment. You made me the family joke.”

I stepped closer.

“But while you were enjoying your title, I was learning how businesses actually work.”

Dad sat silently now.

Somehow smaller.

I checked my watch one last time.

Vanessa froze.

I finished.

Vanessa arrived at the shareholder meeting with two lawyers.
She still wore confidence like armor.

She stared at it.
